People come to therapy for their own unique reasons - do you have perplexing questions about yourself, are you curious about your responses in everyday encounters or maybe you wonder why you have a persistent sensation of feeling stuck?
Life is a complex tapestry of experiences and relationships and at times it can be challenging to make sense of it all. In our sessions we will work together to develop a compassionate therapeutic relationship and use this to explore what is happening with you in the present and the past, your hopes for the future and how they all combine.
Please don’t be concerned if you feel uncertain where to start – we can explore this together. You are at the core of all that we do and we will work at a pace and in a
direction that allows you to feel safe to ask those perplexing questions you may have about yourself. It is not my role as a therapist to tell you what to do because I strongly believe that you are the expert on you. Together we can use our therapeutic relationship combined with curiousity and compassion to develop a deeper awareness of behaviours and relationships that might be impacting your personal growth and fulfilment. This new awareness can bring a sense of empowerment for you and the potential for change.
I trained at the University of Edinburgh in person-centred counselling and the psychodynamic approach. I started practising therapy in 2020 and have worked with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures and at different ages and stages in life. I also have extensive experience working with young adults managing mental health and wellbeing challenges in a higher education setting and previously worked with people in the early stages of substance mis-use recovery.
Therapy doesn’t usually have a fixed time frame and our work is based on what you need – this can range from a few sessions to longer term work. Our sessions will usually be in person, weekly and last for 50 minutes. I can also meet with you online if you prefer. You can find out more about my approach to practise on my website: http://www.annegoodallcounselling.co.uk
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP - 399517) and follow their code of ethical practice, supervision requirements and continuous professional development recommendations.
Selecting a therapist is a very personal choice and as a first step I would encourage you to contact me by email to arrange a free 20 minute introductory call. This conversation will offer you the opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of whether I am a therapist you would like to work with.
