“Every person born into the world represents something new, something that never existed before, something original and unique...."
Martin Buber
I come from a background in the arts, and I chose to become a Gestalt Psychotherapist because of its emphasis on the ‘uniqueness’ of each individual and its compassionate, holistic approach to personal development and growth. I previously worked as a physical theatre actor and theatre educator for many years, developing an awareness around the body’s ways of processing emotions and around the complexities and subtleties of relationship.
My training as a Gestalt Psychotherapist has deepened my interest in embodied work and expanded my understanding of how embodied emotional awareness can help our reconnection with parts of ourselves which might have become dormant, more silent, less accessible. This process fosters a greater sense of wholeness, belonging, presence and openness to relationship.
Through both my professional training and my own experience as a client, I have come to believe deeply in the transformative potential of the therapeutic relationship. I see therapy as an opportunity to create a safe, respectful, confidential, and non judgemental space in which we can explore ourselves more fully.
Within this space, we can begin to compassionately recognise the emotional and behavioural patterns that may once have helped us navigate challenging situations, but which may now be limiting our personal growth, our capacity for compassion towards ourselves and others, and our sense of happiness and fulfilment.
